How To See The Best Of Bohol Philippines In One Day

We were based in Cebu for three nights but really wanted to see the tarsiers and Chocolate Hills, so we decided to do Bohol Philippines in one day. If you are as intrigued by the tarsiers and Chocolate Hills as I was, keep reading for my full guide on how to see the best of Bohol Philippines in one day.Chocolate Hills Bohol #bohol #tarsier #chocolatehills

Getting there

The easiest way to get to Bohol is by ferry or plane. We took the ferry from Cebu which took about 1.5 hours but they played a movie so time went by pretty fast. Once we arrived to the Tagbilaran port, we walked 15 minutes to have lunch at The Buzzz Cafe and then hired a guy on the street to drive us to see the tarsiers and Chocolate Hills. You can book this in advance, but it was really easy to just hire someone there because there’s so many small tourism companies that you can just hire on the spot. It was cheaper to do this too which was shocking, and only cost about $60 total for the both of us. (Make sure to carry cash.) It’s really important to hire a car, not a tricycle for this because the roads are very windy and bumpy and you’ll want to be comfortable. If you don’t care about comfort then you can rent scooters if you have a valid license.

The drive to the Tarsier Sanctuary was about 15 minutes from the port and then the drive to the Chocolate Hills was about another 25. I never get carsick but the drive to the Chocolate Hills really made both of us nauseous because of how windy and bumpy the roads are.Tarsier Sanctuary Bohol - How To See All Of Bohol Philippines In A Day #bohol #tarsier #chocolatehills

Bohol Philippines In One Day Itinerary

  • 11 AM: eat at The Buzzz Cafe. They have plenty of vegan options and delicious juices as well.
  • 12 PM: hire a tour guide to take you the places you want to go. I suggest the Tarsier Sanctuary.
  • 12-1 PM: go to The Philippine Tarsier and Wildlife Sanctuary  in Corella, Bohol. Please avoid the one in Loboc as they do not treat the tarsiers as well.  You only spend about 20 minutes here because they way it’s set up is that the tarsiers are not in cages, they live freely, and the tour guides take you through to point them out to you. We were lucky to get close – how cute are they! You are not allowed to use flash so please be mindful of this:)
  • 1 PM-2 PM: go to the Chocolate Hills. The drive will take about another 25-30 minutes and then once you get there you hike up the stairs and can take some photos. It looks exactly like the photos. Then drive back which takes about an hour.
  • 2 PM: go back to the port and catch a ferry back to Cebu or wherever you want. Or you can go to one of their beaches for a few hours and then go back. It’s really up to you.

Fun facts about Tarsiers

  • they only live on Bohol Island
  • they are the smallest primate species
  • their eyes are heavier than their brain
  • they can leap up to 16.4 feet
  • their lifespan is 12-20 years but they often try to commit suicide if they live in a cage which is why it’s so important to go to a sanctuary that takes care of them properly

My Honest Thoughts On Bohol

Seeing the tarsiers in their natural habitat was awesome, but we could have gone without seeing the Chocolate Hills. They don’t allow drones to fly after 8 am which was a bummer and the car ride back really made me sick. Overall, it’s cool we got to see it, but I don’t think we’d ever go back there.

Bohol was different than I expected, but I’m still glad that we got to experience it.

There’s other things you can do in Bohol though like see the Bilar Forest, scuba dive, and snorkel:)
