Let me explain.
Joe and I went island hopping in the Caribbean for 5 weeks in July, and on his actual birthday I chartered a boat with a captain for us to go explore all of the US and British Virgin Islands. Our favorite island of the 4 BVI’s was by far Jost Van Dyke – due to the pristine white sand, crystal blue waters, off-the-grid vibes, and the best Painkiller you will ever consume at the legendary Soggy Dollar Bar. The Painkiller, a refreshing cocktail for all, is comprised of rum, pineapple juice, cream of coconut, orange juice, and a generous amount of nutmeg. It’s such a unique concoction with refreshing tones – you’ll be craving them once you leave wishing you could make it the same as they do. So make sure to take one for the boat ride back;)
What made me appreciate this drink even more is that this cocktail recipe was actually invented in Jost Van Dyke, at this very bar – The Soggy Dollar, back in the 70’s by Daphne Henderson.
I don’t know about you guys, but that seems like a great retirement project right? Supplying spirits for travelers and locals alike in a beautiful paradise. Mom? Dad? Can we do something similar in Belize? I’ll start studying mixology, picking out interior decor, making music playlists, putting together a marketing plan, and whatnot. It’ll be great.
Anyways. Here are some photos we took at Jost Van Dyke. I hope they inspire you to travel to this beautiful oasis. Comment your favorite islands and experiences below.
Important side note: Jost Van Dyke was seriously affected by Hurricane Irma along with all the other British Virgin Islands. You can donate to BVI Relief on their website here.

Fun fact: the population of Jost Van Dyke is 298. So if you really want to getaway from reality in a paradise – Jost Van Dyke is for you.
This experience described in one word to me is
