The Property

The Rooms

The rooms are contemporary and stylish with modern amenities. They’re decorated in earthy tones, feature gorgeous quality local furniture pieces, and cool coffee table books. The bed was one of the best we’ve ever slept with such luxe & cozy linens. A random but cool feature that we geeked out over was that the air conditioners are silent. I truly appreciate the little things like that. (And now we want/need a silent air conditioner system:) But my favorite part of the room was the balcony overlooking the lake. Pretty sure we spent more time on the balcony than in the room, but how could you not with a view like that?

Sorbet colored houses to the right, lush evergreen mountains surrounding, icnonic Villa Balbianello across the glimmering water, and the captivating calm blue lake. What a dream.

The Pool & Lakefront

The hotel has an infinity pool overlooking Lake Como and guests also have access to their private beach lined with cabanas.

You can rent kayaks, paddleboards, or boats from the hotel dock.
Massages & spa treatments in your room.
A nice fitness room. Filario is one of the few hotels in Como that actually has a solid gym.

The Service

The service at Filario Hotel was impeccable. The staff was attentive, helpful, and friendly. From check-in to breakfast to the lakefront restaurant to room service – every single person was such a delight which made the whole experience even more enjoyable and special.

Dining

The restaurant, called the Bistro, was good. There aren’t any vegan options which was a bummer, but the pasta and wine selection was nice.

For lunch you can dock your boat at the hotel and just stop in for lunch at the lounge which is super chic. My favorite meal I had was lunch on the pebble beach lake because I had the most delicious margarita of my life – the “Clooney Margarita.” I still think about it. Passion fruit, Casamigos tequila, and magic – so yummy.

Location: Lezzenno

Filario is located in the quiet village of Lezzenno, situated on the eastern shore of Lake Como. It overlooks a stunning stretch of lush, evergreen mountains, the 18th-century Villa del Balbianello which was famously featured in the James Bond Casino Royale, and the town of Tremezzo. It’s a 15 minute drive to Bellagio and 40 minutes to the downtown Como. Keep in mind that there is nothing else to do in Lezzeno which is why the area is so peaceful and quiet. Also note that the ferry and bus are both a 15 minute walk down the quiet street so maybe set up transportation, if you prefer, ahead of time.

Getting There

The easiest way to arrive in Lake Como is through Milano Centrale Train Station where there are multiple trains each day. It takes about 36 minutes to get to Como San Giovanni Station and about 1 hour and 37 minutes to Varenna-Esino Station on the north end of the lake. We took the train to Como San Giovanni Station on the south end, and then took the ferry to Lezzeno because I love being on water, but either option is fine. You can find the ferry schedule here. I also use Rome2Rio.com which is super helpful for figuring out transportation.

Depending on which area you are staying, you can take the bus, ferry, or taxi to other towns. Keep in mind that the lake is huge so plan on timing beforehand. It takes well over an hour to get from one end to the next unless you take a hydrofoil boat which takes about 50 minutes.

It’s important to note that they don’t have Uber in Como. There are very few taxis at Como San Giovanni Station, so if you can set up a driver beforehand with your hotel – I’d recommend doing that. You can also drive to Como from Milan if you rent a car, but the public transportation in Italy is typically reliable and convenient.
