This was one of the best days of our lives! I’m not over exaggerating, we both laughed so hard our faces hurt afterwards. It was life changing fun. After hours of research, I found the absolute BEST Mario Kart tour in Tokyo, Japan. And YES, you NEED to experience this. There’s a few crucial things to know before hand which I’ll go over below.

You need to get your International Drivers license before booking. If you’re from the US, you cannot book this tour without proof of an International Drivers license. I thought it would be super difficult, but you just have to go to your local AAA and they can do it for you in under an hour.
You should book at least 2 weeks in advance. This experience is really popular, so you want to make sure that you book ahead of time to prevent any mishaps. BOOK HERE.
Get there early! We almost didn’t make it in time because it was more difficult than we anticipated to get a taxi. Avoid the worry and leave extra early. 🙂
We did the 2 hour tour at 10 AM, but they have other options. Make sure you plan your day accordingly. This was definitely a highlight from our trip and we thought 2 hours was the perfect amount of time for this.
This specific tour takes you all around Ginza, Asakusa, Ryogoku, and Akihabra, with a stop at Sky Tree. There are many tours like this, but this is the best tour. You can book a night tour instead, but we really liked the day tour.
You have the option to dress up as a character! I chose Pikachu (obvi), Joe was Donald Duck, and the other couple that went with us dressed up as Minions. I suggest that you bring sunglasses to protect your eyes from the wind because you go pretty fast. And take a bandana with you too – like this one – to protect you from smog.
The tour guides are super friendly, knowledgeable, and kind. Our tour guide taught us so much about Tokyo, made sure we were always safe, told us some funny jokes, took lots of photos for us, and just really made a lasting impression.

The overall experience was the perfect balance of creating unforgettable memories and learning about a new city and culture. Go-Kart Street Racing is the absolute best and most fun way to see most of Tokyo, especially if you aren’t able to spend a lot of time in this amazing city.
