Custom Disco Ball Sculpture: Humpback Whale

Some art is designed to fill a space. Others are designed to transform it.

Baleena, a 5 1/2 foot mirrored humpback whale, was created as a custom commission and is the newest addition to my ongoing collection, Deep Sea Disco – a series of mirrored marine sculptures inspired by the wonder of the ocean.

A custom disco ball sculpture is more than a statement piece – it’s designed to transform the space it inhabits. Each sculpture is handcrafted to create a unique experience that evolves with changing light and its surroundings. As light shifts, the whale changes with it. Reflections of the lights, architecture, and people nearby become part of the artwork itself, making every viewing experience unique.

Bringing the Ocean Ashore

Whales have long symbolized curiosity, freedom, and our connection to the natural world.

With Baleena, I wanted to capture not only the beauty of a humpback whale, but also the feeling of encountering one.

Mirror mosaic allows the sculpture to become something living. Rather than reflecting only itself, it reflects the world around it – inviting viewers to see themselves as part of the piece.

Designed for Hospitality & Public Spaces

While Baleena now lives in her forever home as a custom commission, the vision behind Deep Sea Disco extends far beyond a single sculpture.

The collection is designed for spaces that invite discovery and interaction – from luxury hotels and resorts to cruise ships, restaurants, museums, music festivals & events, & public art installations.

Each sculpture is created to transform the atmosphere around it through light, movement, and reflection.

The Deep Sea Disco Collection

Baleena joins the first sculptures in the collection: a pair of mirrored manta rays commissioned for a five-star resort in the Maldives.

Together, these works mark the beginning of an evolving body of work celebrating marine life through contemporary mirrored sculpture.

As the collection grows, a portion of proceeds will support Whale and Dolphin Conservation (WDC), helping protect the incredible animals that continue to inspire these pieces.

Looking Ahead

While every custom disco ball sculpture is unique, they all share the same philosophy: to create immersive works of art that invite wonder, transform the spaces they inhabit, and become part of the stories unfolding around them.

The ocean is filled with extraordinary creatures, and Deep Sea Disco is only beginning.
