From Palm Springs Desert Air To Snowy Mountain Tops In 10 Minutes

San Jacinto Mountains

For my birthday weekend I wanted to do something I had never done before, so Joe and I drove out to my favorite place in California, Palm Springs, and went up the San Jacinto Mountains via the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. I had no idea that it was possible to go from Palm Springs desert to snowy mountain tops via a 10 minute aerial tramcar – it was unreal. The air was so crisp and revitalizing – I already want to go back.

The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway is the largest rotating tramcar in the world and it’s so high tech. Honestly, I thought I’d be sketched out on the ride up, but it was the smoothest two and a half mile journey up a mountain, I’ve ever experienced. I love that the tramcar rotates too, so you don’t have to worry about not being able to enjoy the views. However, if you are seriously afraid of heights, definitely do not look down; instead, look out at the beautiful and vast desert as you ascend towards the mountains. Then once you pass the clouds at the top, enjoy the snowy surroundings.

Once you arrive to the top, you can eat, drink, or hangout at the Pine Lodge which has a cabin vibe. We got some hot teas to go and then went venturing out to enjoy the views. It was really windy when we went, so make sure to bundle up.

The best part of going up to the cold, crisp mountains is being able to clear your head and then go back down to the warm desert air and relax. It felt like a brain cleanse.
