Ok so, how to really save money on your next vacation…

1. Cheap flights

Before booking round trip flights, check to see if buying the flights separately (two one-ways) is a better deal. Also remember to book in incognito mode and set up price alerts.

My favorite websites to find cheap flights are:

Victoria House Belize

2. Hotel deals

Get the best hotel deals and save money on accommodations by booking through third party websites. My favorites are:

3. Use a Cash Back Website When You Book

This is the most overlooked tip when it comes to great deals. Through a cash back website such as Dubli.com, you can receive great deals and cash back on sites like Hotels.com, IHG, and HotelStorm when you book. Dubli also offers cash back, discounts, and special offers for CheapOAir, Cruisedirect, and Hawaiian Airlines. The average amount of cash back you receive is typically anywhere from 5-7% which may not seem like a lot, but it really ads up.

4. Book during off season

Planning in advance and booking during a destinations off season can be a great idea. Tickets can be up to half the price, and the same with hotels. The more flexible you are with your schedule, the better deals you will be able to take advantage of.

  • The best day to book flights are Saturday and Sunday.
  • The best day to fly is typically Tuesday.

I try to only pack a carry on whenever I travel because it saves me a lot of time and money. When you check a bag, not only do you have to pay hefty fees, but you also have to wait for the luggage to be transferred after you land. And sometimes luggage gets lost which is something that I personally, don’t like dealing with. I suggest these carry-ons below.

6. Walk more & take public transportation

Depending on which city you’re in, walking and public transportation are great ways to cut back on costs. Walking around a city let’s you get the vibe for the culture while getting your steps in. It’s a win-win. My favorite website to figure out how to get from point A to point B is Rome2Rio.

You can also rent a car if you’re going to be doing a lot of driving. Did someone say road trip? 🙂

7. Use points and miles

Using points and miles is a great way to save money when traveling. My favorite credit card is my Chase Sapphire which has a great points system. I’ve been able to book a ton of flights using my points. My favorite airline is American Airlines. It’s the best airline to rack up miles on and receive free or discounted flights in the future.

Major tip:

If you have an Amex, you can apply to receive Global Entry which will save you so much time in the long run. Global Entry is crucial. I hate traveling with anyone who doesn’t have. Don’t be that person.

I hope these 7 tips help you save money on your travels and would love for you to comment any more tips to share below!

Additionally… Use Any Excuse to Save Money
Obviously having a savings account is a good idea, right? You can apply the same concept when saving for a vacation. Any extra or “found” money you come into, simply add it to your vacation fund. Did you finish efiling your tax return and find you’re getting a nice little refund? Save it! Did you switch car insurance providers to get a better rate? Add the difference to your vacation fund each month.
