Italian Alps: Α Journey to the Mother of the Mountains

A visit to the Alps may seem like a dream come true for some, but if you think about it, you will realize that it is not an elusive dream and it doesn’t have to be. In fact, if you compare this trip with a three-day trip to another winter destination, you will find that if you made sure to organize it earlier, it would be just as economical. Basically, make sure you book your airline tickets early and secure your stay just as early, as these are the two most essential steps you will need to take to plan your trip.

Most people know it as Matterhorn in German. It is the pyramid-like peak in the Western Alps, where the Apennine Mountains are joining together. Also, the Italians call it Cervino and the French Mont Cervin. But whatever name you choose, the ending is the same: the 4,478 altitude. And the top looks so wonderful, so if you stand below it, it challenges you to take the ski lift and go up close to it. If you know your way of skiing, then you can wonderfully go down the slope with your skis and live an exceptional experience. We will call it Cervino. We’ll prefer it in Italian since we’ll approach it from Italy.

With a lot of snow in the winter, the area holds a white landscape even until the early summer days, but the residents and people in the business of Cervino have made sure that it is not exclusively a winter destination (it is not easy to maintain enterprises for only a quarter of the year ). So, all year round, you will find a variety of activities, such as mountain biking, hiking, climbing, and even playing golf.

How to get there

The nearest airport to Cervino is Turin, which is about 75 miles away and the car journey will take about 2 hours of driving. There is also Milan Airport, which is 117 miles away from Cervino, and then Geneva Airport that is 135 miles away. However, apart from the use of a car for your transfer to the resort, there is also the train option which leads you to the station of Chatillon which is 17 miles near the resort. You can finally use the various bus services departing from Aosta, Turin, Milan, Geneva and Cervinia for your convenience.

Where to stay

The ideal Italian ski accommodation will depend mainly on your own plans and the needs of your trip. The winter resort offers a huge selection of hotels with suites that contain all the comforts and are within walking distance of the ski slopes, but there are also apartments with traditional and modern chalet designs that offer you comfortable and safe accommodation for you and your partners. Whatever is the final choice of your stay, Erna Low will help you find the most attractive and exciting option that suits your preferences.

Where to dine

If you visit Saint Vincent, then it is worth going to the restaurant Le Grenier, in the city. With old decor, loft, fireplace and cave, it groups the tables ideally for a beautiful meal by a chef who has been awarded a Michelin star. Dishes with a small amount of food but with excellent taste value. And for wine, choose Le Crete, white or red whichever you prefer.

If, on the other hand, you want to spend your time in Cervinia, then we highly recommend the Alpage restaurant, which looks more like a tavern. With stunning views, it also overlooks the famous mount peak, serving amazing food. Try the corn with the soufflé cheeses (polenta), but also the noodles with spinach and sour cream, the variety of cold cuts and of course anything in the meat category. In the end, a piece of apple pie, with a little icing on top, is the best dessert to end a wonderful trip sweetly.
