So if you follow me on instagram (@amy_marietta) you know that I am newly obsessed with my new digs in the West Village. For a Southern California West Coast girl, the West Village is the ultimate place in the city to reside because it is the only neighborhood in Manhattan where you can skip a block to charming restaurants, unique bars, authentic coffee shops, run along the water on the West Side Highway and even hear the birds chirping when you wake up. And that, my friends, is glorious and something I missed dearly since moving to the city. The plethora of foliage and nature surrounding me is calming yet creatively stimulating at the same time. I find that a lot of people struggle to balance their life in New York because we are so busy and on the go with work, but I find that nature and a little silence really keeps me in tuned with everything and very focused. Although it is a quiet neighborhood we are also right in the heart of the city and all transportation is readily available which is also a very important factor. After all we are New York transplants and we have adopted this sense of urgency when it comes to successfully hailing a cab. So thank you cab drivers for always being available on 7th Ave… West Village is what I like to call my little slice of heaven and I could not be happier.

I already have all my favorite spots that I have been quickly discovering around the neighborhood. Bobo is my new favorite spot for brunch, happy hour and dinner (yes I love it THAT much) and then there is Why Not Coffee which is my favorite place to enjoy a nice iced coffee and get some work done on my laptop in a creative environment. I try to walk and wander a lot more now since there are so many unique shops on every street; I feel like I can actually “stop to smell the roses” if you will. Too cliche? Whateverrr. But seriously I feel like a new person with these new beginnings. Spring has sprung my friends.

I love the intimacy and realness of being photographed in your own home. There is something so raw about it and you are able to capture the little moments; the little intricate and real moments. To me my home is somewhere where I can create, be inspired, learn, focus, and relax. I like to create an environment that has positive vibes and keeps you creative and always wanting to do more. A home is a place to create memories and document them.

So on a serious note- should I adopt a kitten?

Inspiration of the day:

“What i like about photographs is that they capture a moment that’s gone forever, impossible to reproduce.”

–Karl Lagerfeld

“All photographs are memento mori. To take a photograph is to participate in another person’s (or thing’s) mortality, vulnerability, mutability. Precisely by slicing out this moment and freezing it, all photographs testify to time’s relentless melt.”

–Susan Sontag
